Overall Opinion:
I don’t recommend New York Biology Retinol Serum for anyone who actually wants any anti-aging benefits at all.
From the first time I applied this retinol serum to my skin, it felt drying. I was actually surprised how drying this serum felt IMMEDIATELY after application. My skin felt uncomfortable, and not the normal kind of dry and uncomfortable that retinols can sometimes cause.
After using this serum for a short amount of time, my skin was feeling dry and dull. After using it for a longer period of time, my skin was seriously dehydrated and literally looking older. Seriously, older! My skin was so dry that it was sucking the life out of my skin. Sometimes retinols can cause flaking as your skin adjusts but this was not that, this was just plain dehydration. There were seriously no added benefits to my skin.
Overall, I was highly disappointed with the results of this retinol serum and I will not be using this product ever again.
Detailed Opinion:
Texture/Feel
The texture and feeling of New York Biology Retinol Serum are very thin and watery; it feels a lot more like a liquid than a serum. Something I noticed about this product is it makes my skin feel crazy dry.
Application
When the bottle arrives, it comes with both a dropper and a pump and I really appreciate that you can choose which applicator you like best. For this retinol serum, I prefer a dropper. Even though this serum is thin, you have to use kind of a lot! Normally with serums I use about 2-3 drops, but with this one, I found myself using an entire dropperful or even more. This product immediately absorbs into the skin and gives you no time to move the product around, so you really need to apply drops to all areas of the face.
Drying Time
Like I said, this product dries crazy quick… I mean as soon as you apply it to the skin, it’s absorbed and dry.
Smell
There is no added fragrance to this retinol serum and no specific scent to note.
Short Term Results
Short term, this product made my skin dry… like SUPER dry! It wasn’t the typical kind of a dry that some retinols make your skin either. This made my skin feel like it needed an intense moisturizer which I normally don’t need. I noticed the product actually has alcohol in it; it’s the fourth ingredient, and I think that is what’s causing the dry skin.
Longer Term Results
After using New York Biology Retinol Serum for a longer period of time, my skin was very irritated. There were NO benefits from this retinol serum. Not only did I experience zero positive differences, it made my skin so crazy dry that my skin looked worse! This product literally did the exact opposite of what I was looking for!
Ingredients Analysis
New York Biology Retinol Serum doesn’t have many ingredients in it, but there are a few I found interesting such as witch hazel, ginseng root extract, and glycerin.
First, witch hazel is a natural astringent which can help tighten pores, clear skin, and slow the signs of premature aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.
Second, ginseng root extract is supposed to be able to help slow the systems of aging as well as help with dark spots such as hyperpigmentation and sun damage.
Lastly, glycerin is supposed to help provide moisture to the skin by putting a barrier around the skin, therefore helping to reduce the signs of aging and prevent further damage.
Price
The cost of New York Biology Retinol Serum is $16.95 for 2 oz of product which comes out to $8.47 per oz.
This is a relatively average price for a retinol serum.
Guarantee
Unfortunately, there is no money back guarantee for New York Biology Retinol Serum.
