Overall Opinion:

I had my doubts about No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum before I tried it, but I was surprisingly impressed with the results it gave!

The texture of this retinol serum is unlike other serums I have tried, and I don’t mean that in a good way. It feels very thick and almost petroleum jelly-like when you first apply it. As you spread it out, it gets softer and velvety and less sticky which is good, but I still don’t like the texture.

Something I don’t like about this retinol serum is that most of the ingredients are unrecognizable, meaning the average person wouldn’t know what they were putting on their face. I like to be able to read and recognize ingredients when trying new products so that was kind of disappointing.

As for the results, like I said before, I was surprised at how impressed I was by this product. After using for a short period of time, my skin felt hydrated and plumped up. The longer I used it, the more I noticed that my skin was still feeling hydrated and my fine lines were plumped up. It also helped smooth out some of the texture on my skin. But, it didn’t do much for any dark spots or hyperpigmentation which is something I typically look for in a retinol serum.

Overall, this product was pretty impressive, especially for a drugstore retinol serum!

Detailed Opinion:

Texture/Feel

The texture and feeling of No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum are much thicker than many other serums. It has a velvety soft texture, but when you first apply the retinol, it kind of feels like petroleum jelly. This is definitely an interesting texture for a retinol serum, and although it felt soft, it wasn’t the best texture for the skin.

Application

This retinol serum is very easy to apply; it comes in a tube which makes application easy, and you can control the amount of product you dispense. Since this product is kind of thick, you need kind of a lot to cover your entire face and neck.

Drying Time

Because this retinol serum is thick and velvety, it doesn’t really dry down. It absorbs into the skin a bit after about a minute, but it really doesn’t absorb fully and it kind of sits on top of the skin which isn’t ideal.

Smell

This retinol serum doesn’t have much of a scent; it smells slightly sweet but isn’t strong or offensive at all.

Short Term Results

Short term, my skin felt plumped up and hydrated. I found that this product really helped hydrate my skin, but other than that, there wasn’t any other big changes to my skin.

Longer Term Results

After using No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum for a longer period of time, my skin continued to feel hydrated and plump. My fine lines were plumped up and smoothed out, and even some of my deeper lines looked smoother. I also found that the texture of my skin was feeling smoother, but it didn’t do much for my hyperpigmentation and didn’t help all the deeper lines on my face and neck. I was definitely impressed with the overall results that this retinol serum provided!

Ingredients Analysis

Something I don’t love about this product is that most of the ingredients in this retinol serum are unrecognizable. A few ingredients that did stand out to me were ginseng root extract, hyaluronic acid, and magnesium sulfate.

First, ginseng root extract is known for being an anti-aging ingredient for its phytonutrients that are supposed to help brighten the skin and even the skin tone out.

Next, hyaluronic acid is a very common ingredient seen in retinols because of its ability to help smooth out wrinkles and protect and hydrate the skin.

Lastly, magnesium sulfate is a pretty interesting ingredient because many think of this ingredient as being good for sleep, but it’s good for more than just that. Magnesium sulfate is thought to help the skin calm inflammation as well as fight acne and blemishes.

Together these three ingredients can really pack a punch. I just wish the rest of the ingredients weren’t all unrecognizable!

Price

The cost of No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum is $29.99 for 1 oz of product.

This is definitely a bit of a pricier retinol serum, especially for a drugstore product.
