Overall Opinion:
Kate Somerville Retasphere Retinol Night Cream is a very good retinol cream.
We saw pretty good results both in the short term and longer term when using this product (especially on fine lines and increasing skin smoothness). It’s also very moisturizing– which is something you can’t say about all retinol creams!
As far as downsides, this product is definitely on the thicker side, which some of you will not like. It makes applying it a bit more difficult than other retinol wrinkle creams.
The other issue we saw with Retasphere is its extremely high price tag. At $85.00 per pounce, it’s one of the more expensive retinol products out there.
But if you can afford it, and don’t mind spending big bucks on skincare, this product works really well and definitely better than many other retinol creams currently available.
Detailed Opinion:
Texture/Feel
Kate Somerville Retasphere Retinol Night Cream is a white-colored cream.
Compared to most retinol creams, this one is pretty thick. It feels “heavier” than the vast majority of wrinkle creams we’ve tried.
Application
Applying Retasphere takes a bit more work than many other retinol creams.
Because of its thick consistency, this is one you actually have to rub and blend in.
It’s not super difficult or anything, it just takes longer than comparable products.
Drying Time
Kate Somerville Retasphere Retinol Night Cream takes about 5-10 minutes to dry, which again, is longer than most retinol creams.
It definitely feels a bit heavier on the skin and is a little sticky.
Since it’s meant to be applied at night, these things really didn’t bother us too much. Although some people will undoubtedly prefer a lighter-weight product.
Smell
The smell of this one is a spa-like, lavender odor. It could also be described as “herbal”.
It’s pretty faint and isn’t very noticeable once you’ve applied it to your skin and allowed it to dry.
Short Term Results
After waking up the next morning after using Kate Somerville Retasphere Retinol Night Cream, we actually like what we saw when looking in the mirror.
Our skin looked smooth and felt great!
Longer Term Results
Longer term we noticed some nice changes in our skin after using this product.
Fine lines seemed a bit less noticeable and our skin felt smoother and smoother as time went on.
It’s hard to quantify exactly, but our skin just felt and looked healthier if that makes sense.
Ingredients Analysis
Kate Somerville Retasphere Retinol Night Cream contains pure retinol, which is a good thing. We’re not as big a fan of retinol derivatives like retinyl palmitate– unless you have very sensitive skin.
It also contains some fruit extracts like apricot and mango that help with moisturizing and smoothing the skin.
We like the fact that this contains ingredients that are designed to counteract some of the drying and redness that happens with some people when they use retinol.
We didn’t experience any of those “side effects” with this product– those extracts might help explain that :)
Price
A one ounce tube of Kate Somerville Retasphere Retinol Night Cream costs a very expensive $85.00 for just one ounce.
So that obviously works out to $85 an ounce, which is incredibly expensive!
Guarantee
Kate Somerville offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, which is great.
You do have to call them to get a return authorization number, which is a bit of a pain. But it sure beats offering no guarantee (especially on a product this expensive)!
